Lakshadweep Development Corporation is an omnibus Corporation for Lakshadweep established as a fully owned Government Company in 1988. The Corporation has focussed on developing value added products from fish and coconut resources abundantly available in the islands. The Lakshadweep seas are estimated to be having an annual harvestable resource of one lakh tonnes of Tuna and an equal quantity of Shark. The Corporation is running a Tuna Canning Factory in the southern most island of Minicoy. Desiccated Coconut Powder is produced at our Factory in Kadmat island.Apart from this Coconut Jaggery and Vinegar unit is being run in Kalpeni island. The motto behind our production team is to produce quality products at affordable prices. The Tuna cans carved a niche for itself in the local canned fish market. Desiccated Coconut powder has also been accepted widely all over India and the other products like Coconut Jaggery and Coconut Vinegar has found good buyers at all times.The corporation apart from running the above factories is also managing the various Control Towers in the islands which is a core function as ocean to shore and vice versa communication is cardinal for the safety and security of the many MSVs and cargo vessels plying between the islands and mainland.
